This vintage postcard depicts the Lithuanian Classroom, also known as the Cathedral of Learning, located at the University of Pittsburgh. Designed by A. Gudaitis of Kaunas, this unique room features walls covered with hand-woven linen and decorative columns of white and black oak, darkened by many years at the bottom of the Vistula River. A niche at the rear displays a fresco reproduction of 'Two Kings' by famed painter Mykolas Ciurlionis, adding an artistic and historical depth to this classroom. The oak furniture, carved with characteristic Lithuanian folk ornaments, complements the sun ornaments of pagan origin used as leaded medallions in the windows, creating a stunning blend of cultural heritage and educational atmosphere. The postcard was published by The Garraway Company, Rutherford, N.J., and measures the standard 5.5 x 3.5 inches. A collectible piece for enthusiasts of cultural history, university landmarks, and Lithuanian art and tradition.
