Item Description

This postcard commemorates the General Assembly of the Swiss section of the Internacia Ligo, held in Bern on September 4, 1910. The Internacia Ligo was an organization associated with the Esperanto movement, which sought to promote international communication and understanding through the use of a universal language. Founded in the early 20th century, the organization played a key role in fostering cultural and intellectual exchange across linguistic and national boundaries.
The design features several iconic views of the Swiss capital, including the Bundesgebäude (Federal Palace), the Zytglogge (Clock Tower), the Bubenberg Monument, and a panoramic view of Bern with the Kornhaus Bridge and the Alps in the background. Swiss and Bernese coats of arms frame the central text, adding to its thematic and patriotic appeal.
The postcard was published by G. Metz, Basel and was not mailed. The reverse side displays a traditional divided back with German text (Weltpostverein), consistent with the early 20th century.
