Hoofdwegschool - hoofsweg hoek corantinjstraat amsterdami west. According to wikipedia: the corantijnschool, or corantijn for short, is a school building at corantijnstraat 2-4[1] in amsterdam-west. The initiator of the school was the municipality of sloten (1921), which was swallowed up by the municipality of amsterdam shortly afterwards. The double symmetrical school building[2] was completed in 1923. The corantijnschool and the hoofdwegschool were built in the building. In those years it was cheaper to build a double school than to prepare everything for two separate schools. The building came from the drawing boards of the public works, which projected the school into streets with long residential blocks. The three-storey school is built in the entangled amsterdam school style. In the street scene, the school is striking because of the contrast between the light and dark colors of the bricks used and the space of the playground in front of the school, the other buildings in the neighborhood are relatively dense. Plastic shapes have also been applied to the walls. Moreover, the building is recognizable by eye-catching towers with window corridors in between. Upon completion, the site in front of the school was still protected with a brick parapet with ornamental wrought iron fencing, but these have been demolished over the years. The building also has some sculptures, both from the time of completion, and from the 21st century (made by students under supervision). In 2013, so-called language tiles were installed in the building, texts from pupils were encased in tiles and placed above banisters. [3] in world war ii, the schools were used as barracks for nazi germany. After the war, education here "just" continued, other schools in the area closed. The schools had three later celebrities as pupils: simone kleinsma attended the corantijnschool, j. Bernlef and joop doderer the hoofdwegschool. Unsent, divided back with light corner bumping & toning. Very fine condition. (any streaks on the reverse side/ 2nd image of the card are from the scanner and not on the actual card.) base shipping is $2.00 domestic and $3.00 international. Purchases at/over $49.95 must be insured. All items/orders selling for over $49.95 will be based upon final sale price. Seller will combine multiple purchases.
