Here is a FANTASTIC REAL PHOTO postcard from a MEMBER OF THE 1930 BYRD EXPEDITION TO ANTARCTICA in 1930....showing MEMBERS SKIING, PULLING SLED with HAULING EQUIPMENT EIGHTY MILES BY MAN POWER with an AUTOGRAPH BY A CREW MEMBER reading: BEST WISHES G.H. BLACK on the front circa 1930 AZO card. George H. Black was a SEAMAN, TRACTOR MAN and SUPPLY OFFICER and is listed as a member of the Ice Party who spent 14 months ashore---AN ONLINE SEARCH LISTS HIS NAME:THE MEDALS OF THE SECOND BYRD ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION by Stanley R. Bright On May 23, 1930, Congress directed the acting Secretary of the Navy to have gold, silver and bronze medals made for the Officers and men of the second Byrd Antarctic Expedition, The obverse shows Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd standing wearing a parka and holding a ski pole in his right hand. Around the edge of the obverse is inscribed "BYRD ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION, 1928-1930~’ in bold capitals. The reverse shows a sailing ship, similar to the CITY OF NEW YORK which was used for the Expedition, above a panel inscribed, "PRESENTED TO THE OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE BYRD ANTARTIC EXPEDITION TO EXPRESS THE HIGH ADMIRATION IN WHICH THE CONGRESS AND THE AMERICA~ PEOPLE HOLD THEIR HEROIC AND UNDAUNTED SERVICES IN CONNECTION WITH THE SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATIONS AND EXTRAORDINARY AERIAL EXPLORATION OF THE ANTARCTIC CONTINENT." Below the pane! is a front-head on view of a Ford Tri-Motor aircraft of the type used by Byrd for the expedition. The medal ribbon is white with light blue edges.
