This vintage postcard depicting the interior of the Jorakuden (Shogun's accommodation hall) in the Honmaru Palace of Nagoya Castle, Japan. The palace was considered a prime example of samurai-styled Shoin-zukuri architecture. The room features tatami flooring and intricate paintings on the sliding doors and walls, a common decorative style for the time. The original palace was completed in 1615 and served as the official residence and offices of the Owari Tokugawa clan. The structure in the photo was destroyed by fire in 1945 and has since been reconstructed.
