Maxwell Coker, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 11, 2005 in Houston, TX. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Christopher; daughter, Noel; grandchildren, Maxwell, Olivia and Alexander; and sister, Christine Morgan. Born in Corinth, Mississippi, his impressive resume included membership in the legendary Theatre Guild and stage appearances on Broadway, throughout the United States, Europe, and Great Britain. In the 1930s, he was an original cast member of the London production of Oklahoma, appeared in several Royal Command performances, and performed with such legendary artists as Laurence Olivier, Howard Keel, Sir John Gielgud, Mary Martin, Richard Burton, and Noel Coward. His early training included George Balanchine's School of American ballet. He was honorary officer in the British military, and toured the South Pacific Islands performing with the cast of Oklahoma. After a 26-year show business career, Maxwell returned to the United States where he met his wife of 47 years, Patricia Henehan. A senior manager with American Express, he appeared in many travel-related TV and radio programs, and hosted a Chicagoarea TV show, "It's Fun to Travel." Anxious to share his passion for the stage with young people, he was active in helping to found and foster Evanston Township High School's production of Brillianteen. Maxwell Coker was a witty and charming raconteur and an accomplished cook whose hospitality attracted young and old alike.
