This vintage postcard of the Teopanzolco pyramid located in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The ruins are a significant archaeological site dating back to the Tlahuica civilization and later the Aztecs. The pyramid was built in multiple phases, with an older temple (c. 1150-1200 AD) discovered inside the main structure (c. 1200-1521 AD). The site was rediscovered in 1910 by revolutionary forces led by Emiliano Zapata. The 2017 Puebla earthquake caused damage to the structure but also revealed the previously hidden inner temple dedicated to the rain god Tláloc. The name "Teopanzolco" means "in the place of the old temple" in the Nahuatl language.
