Old Japanese postcard, presumably from the 1920s/early 1930s. This striking image portrays the assault of Mara, the demon king, and his demonic forces on Buddha as he meditates under the Bodhi tree. The text accompanying the image identifies this as part 9 of a series on the life of Shakyamuni Buddha.
