For sale is a wonderful c1910s Frith's Series postcard featuring the famous donkeys of Clovelly, Devon, captioned 'We are Seven'. This charming colorized view (Series No. 61019) captures seven donkeys standing on the cobbled path near the harbor, with the steep cliffs and ivy-covered buildings in the background. Clovelly is renowned for its steep, cobbled main street, which is inaccessible to cars, making donkeys the traditional method of transportation for goods and visitors. The card bears a King Edward VII halfpenny stamp and was sent to Master Walter B. Davis Jr. in Naugatuck, Connecticut. A fantastic piece of social history capturing the unique character of this English seaside village. Text: 'Sept. 3rd. These donkeys are looking at you because they want to give you a ride.
