Bamburgh Castle Gateway Eye Gouging Battle Countess Phillimore Old Postcard

BG650   This stunning antique illustrator postcard is of the amazing entrance gateway to Bamburgh Castle and accompanying early art with historical notes on the surrender of the castle when it was handed over by the old Countess Of Northumberland after King William Rufus' soldiers had theatened to cut out the eyes of her hsuband.  .It is from Victorian born historic art illustrator RP Phillimore described as one of the greatest postcard artists of his time. It was published between 110-120 years ago origin lightly aged used but truly outstanding condition.    RP Phillmore's postcards were notable for their distinctive sepia tone, delicate hand-coloring, and historical notes and have great unique character.  I am proud to offer one of the greatest RP Phillimore collections of its kind and please see all his other postcards at my store.
