Item Description

This is a used vintage postcard picturing the Fort Meigs Hotel in Toledo, Ohio.

The description on the back of the car reads:

Hotel Fort Meigs 
Toledo, Ohio
An Albert Pick Hotel.
Famous for hospitality and service, 250 rooms with bath.
Glass Slipper Cocktail Lounge, Purple Cow Coffee Shop.

The back features a handwritten message in pencil, addressed to a location in Conneaut, Ohio.

It was published by E.C. Kropp Co. in Milwaukee, Wis. and is a natural color postcard. Made in the U.S.A.

The card has a 1946 Toledo, Ohio postmark, machine cancel, and a purple 3-cent stamp. 

There is an Albert Pick Hotel ink stamp in the message area.

Fort Meigs Hotel was an 11-story hotel constructed in 1925. It was located at 222-226 North St. Clair Street in Downtown Toledo, Ohio. The Albert Pick Hotel Company acquired the building in October 1935 and renovated the hotel. Rooms with baths were advertised for $2 per night in the late 1930s. At that time, it was one of 17 Albert Pick hotels in eight states that included the Chittenden and Fort Hayes hotels in Columbus and the Fountain Square Hotel in Cincinnati. Fort Meigs Hotel was demolished around 1966 to make way for the Fiberglass Tower (now called the Tower on the Maumee built 1969-1970), the tallest building in Toledo at the time it was built.
